    WOS: 000282916600004Let T be a time scale with [a, b] subset of T. We establish criteria for existence of one or more than one positive solutions of the non-eigenvalue problem (0.1) {y Delta(4)(t) - q(t)y Delta(2) (sigma(t)) = f(t, y(t)) = f(t,y(t)), t is an element of [a, b] subset of T, y(a) = Sigma(m-2)(i=1) a(i)y(xi(i)), y(sigma(2)(b)) = Sigma(m-2)(i=1) b(i)y(xi(i)), y Delta(2)(a) = Sigma(m-2)(i=1) a(i)y Delta(2)(xi(i)), y Delta(2)(sigma(2)(b)) = Sigma(m-2)(i=1) b(i)y Delta(2)(xi(i)), where xi(i) is an element of (a, b), a(i), b(i) is an element of [0, infinity) (for i is an element of {1, 2, ... , m - 2}) are given constants. Later, we consider the existence and multiplicity of positive solutions for the eigenvalue problem y Delta(4) (t) - q(t)y Delta(2) (sigma(t)) = lambda f (t, y(t)) with the same boundary conditions. We shall also obtain criteria which lead to nonexistence of positive solutions. In both problems, we will use Krasnoselskii fixed point theorem

EMERGENCY DISTANCE EDUCATION DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC: A QUALITATIVE RESEARCH FROM A SPECIAL EDUCATION PERSPECTIVE

    Get PDF
It is a fact that the world was caught unprepared for the Covid-19 outbreak. Especially when the epidemic broke out in many countries, educational activities were suspended for a while, and then distance education was started. Since this process is the result of a sudden transition, it has been seen that it brings with it many difficulties. Among these difficulties, perhaps the most prominent was the situation of students who need special education and special education teachers. In this direction, the aim of the study is to determine the difficulties experienced by students with special needs and special education teachers in this process. This research was carried out within the framework of the qualitative method. Within the scope of the research, 20 special education teachers were reached, and their opinions were taken with a semi-structured interview form. The responses received were divided into codes and categories, which were analyzed by content analysis, one of the qualitative analysis methods. According to the findings, special education teachers stated that they had the most difficulty in communicating with their students while negating the distance education process. Accessibility problem was also stated as an important problem and the problems caused by low parental technology literacy were emphasized. Although special education teachers find positive justifications for ensuring that education somehow continues in the distance education process, they make several valuable suggestions for structuring the system more inclusive and for all potential users. Platforms for students who need special education in the distance education process can be designed to support topics such as content, interaction, socialization. The family can take a more active role in this process as a stakeholder. For this, family members can be motivated with the necessary prior information and demands full of expectations

High-density lipoprotein functionality in patients with hyperbaric oxygen therapy

    Get PDF
High-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol levels are associated with decreased risk of atherosclerotic disease, but also not all HDL are  functionally equivalent. The functional status of HDL is closely linked to its primary protein component, apolipoprotein A-1 (ApoA-I) levels and paraoxonase 1 (PON1) enzyme. Functional changes of HDL may arise from hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBO) induced posttranslational modification of ApoA-1 and PON1 levels. A total of 41 patients who met the research criteria were included in the study. On average, 30 sessions of HBO therapy were performed (range: 20-39). Laboratory measurements were performed at the beginning and at the end of HBO treatment in two groups of the same patients. We measured serum levels of Apo A-1, PON1, oxidized LDL (OxLDL) and routine lipid laboratory parameters to determine possible changes in HDL function with HBO therapy. As unexpected, long term HBO treatment have no effect on OxLDL and also on PON1 enzyme. However, the mean ApoA-1 values in the second group were statistically significantly increased than their pre-treatment values (P < 0.003). This preliminary study showed that HBO therapy increased the amount of serum ApoA-1. Actually, it can be assumed that the treatment of HBO does not have a negative effect on HDL functionality. The increase in ApoA-1 with HBO therapy is probably aimed at protecting against oxidative stress in patients. As a result, there is a need for larger clinical trials to determine the possible effects of HBO therapy on HDL functionality

Interaction between Group Work, Motivation and Instructional Feedback in Project-Based Courses

    Get PDF
This study aimed to define the relationships between the factors affecting the learning processes of participants in project-based courses. The study sample consisted of 132 participants who had taken in the instructional design course offered at the undergraduate level. The MSLQ, SAGE, and SPIF were used as data collection tools. The findings showed that the conflicts caused by the individuals with negative affect about instructional feedback diminished the quality of product and process during group work. Positive affect was found to be directly affected by ‘extrinsic goal orientation’, which is one of the motivation variables

Multifocal tuberculosis presenting with osteoarticular and breast involvement

    Get PDF
BACKGROUND: Polyarticular involvement, wrist and ankle arthritis are uncommon presentation of skeletal tuberculosis. Tuberculosis of the breast is also extremely rare. CASE PRESENTATION: Wrist, ankle and breast involvement were detected in the same patient. Mycobacterium tuberculosis was isolated from both synovial and breast biopsy specimen cultures. CONCLUSIONS: In general, tuberculosis arthritis is a frequently missed diagnosis, especially in different clinical patterns. A high level of suspicion is required particularly in high-risk populations and endemic areas

Background It is known that complementary and integrative medicine (CIM) methods are especially used by patients with chronic headaches. The aim of our study is to increase the knowledge on this topic, to provide objective data about use in Turkish headache patients. Methods This study included 425 patients with headache. The survey form prepared was filled in under the supervision of a health professional. The questionnaire included 2 items, about CIM methods and finance. Results Among the patients evaluated, 316 were female, and 109 were male. All of 52% answered yes to the question “did you ever use any CIM treatment method for headaches during your life?”. The most frequently used methods were combined (herbal+one or more other method) (29.6%), herbal (9.4%) and cupping therapy (4.2%). Among the patients that used combined methods, 26.9% had spent 30–100TL (5–25euro), 20.6% had spent 100–300TL (25–70euro), 26.9% had spent 300–500TL (70–120euro) and the last two groups that formed 12.6% had spent 500–1000 (120–250euro) and >1000TL (>250euro). Conclusion Half of the patients that applied to outpatient clinic with headaches use one or more of these methods and make budgets in accordance with their income levels. Physicians should have sufficient knowledge and clinical opinions about the CIM methods used by headache patients

In this work, the electrochemical oxidation of naproxen (NAP) was studied at an ultra-trace graphite electrode (UTGE). The cyclic voltammetry (CV) technique was used to determine the optimum conditions and the effect of pH on the electrochemical oxidation of NAP. Acetate buffer (pH 4.50) was selected as the support electrolyte due to obtaining the highest electronic signal increase during oxidation of NAP at UTGE. The differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) technique was performed for electrochemical determination of NAP. In the optimum conditions, the limits of detection (LOD) and quantification (LOQ) were determined to be 8.6610-8 M and 2.8810-7 M. In addition, the amount of NAP was determined in drug tablets. The recovery studies of NAP from the drug tablet were completed in order to check the accuracy and precision of the applied voltammetric method. Furthermore, the determination of NAP was performed with the high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method. These two methods were compared in terms of accuracy, precision and recovery studies
